Los líderes del pensamiento mágico

Se ha vuelto común oír que las negligentes políticas de Jair Bolsonaro y Donald Trump respecto de la pandemia responden a que estos presidentes priorizan la economía de sus países sobre la salud de su población. En el caso de Trump, se subraya que necesita llegar a noviembre sin una economía en ruinas pues sino su reelección es virtualmente imposible. No estoy convencido. O, mejor dicho, este diagnóstico, sin ser incorrecto, resulta crucialmente incompleto: antes que presidentes partidarios del laissez faire, son líderes que pertenecen a una vieja tradición política antiracionalista.
