FARS Section 2019 fieldtrip (Food, Agriculture, and Rural Studies)

Date: May 23rd 2019
Time: 7.45am
Location: Many Hands Organic Farm at Barre, MA

Note: Two options are available. One that includes lunch and transportation for $40, and another that only includes lunch for $10.

As is now a tradition FARS is organizing its 2019 fieldtrip. This year the Many Hands Organic Farm at Barre, MA was chosen as its fieldtrip place. The proposal is to have a two parts visit. One more historical where we will learn a bit about organic production at the region and the history of the farm and its relation to the community and its currently organization. Another part, a more practical one, includes a tour at the farm for checking what they are producing now and how and they are open to people willing to engage on some farm work that is demanded at the day of our visit as a way to engage on farms activities.

Date and time: It will take place on May 23rd leaving from the Marriot Copley Place by 7.45am in the morning and returning around 4.30pm to the same place.

How to participate: We have limited places and the deadline to apply is May 13th, also you have to:

  1. fill this form: https://goo.gl/forms/iOUcEVODdCDG3tlm2 (if you have already fill it just proceed to payment);
  2. Pay $ 40 ($10 lunch + $30 transport) or $10 lunch, depending on which tour you choose.
The entrance at the farm has no cost, however, as we are spending the day at the farm they are offering us lunch for the price of $10/person. MHOF also will consider in the menu dietary restrictions as gluten-free and vegetarians (please let us know if you have a special request to include you).
The MHOF is a distance of two hours driving from Boston. Therefore, FARS Council has asked for budgets to several companies in Boston. Boston Common Coach has offered the best price per person. The amount includes tolls, gratuity and small tolerance in case of traffic jams and delays. FARS Section does not have enough funds to cover the transportation cost but it will pay U$S200. With this contribution, the cost for transportation will be U$D28 per person. Even though the council has made a big effort to arrive to the cheapest fare per person, it is important to consider that in case of any unexpected situation or more delays, we will have to pay extra and we will be collecting the money during the fieldtrip.
